Pippa Middleton and James Matthews Just May Be Wimbledon’s Best Dressed Couple

A bold pop of color is de rigueur at Wimbledon—how else can one stand out in a sea of tennis whites? But some women are finding more interesting ways to wear the classic shade, and their significant others are following suit. Take Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis, who turned up today in game-changing neutrals. Also competing for best dressed couple was Pippa Middleton and James Matthews; the newlyweds arrived hand-in-hand to the tournament in his-and-hers ensembles cut from a similar cloth.

This isn’t the first time Middleton and Matthews have been sartorially in sync. During their honeymoon in Australia, they went with a consciously coordinated look on more than one occasion. Today, Middleton chose a clean white sundress with voluminous sleeves and a plunging neckline—perfect for letting in the breeze coming off center court. She topped it off with a fedora, a bit of a rule-breaking move at Wimbledon, where men often wear baseball caps, but few women reach for the chic alternative. The trim on her hat matched her cross-body bag, and came decorated with a single gold star that felt fun and playful. Meanwhile, Matthews kept things casual in simple chinos and a smart tweed jacket, but did well to add a tie, which put him in line with Middleton’s similarly polished accessories.
