Who Have You Been Googling In 2016?

If you had to guess who the most searched actresses and designers of 2016 were, you might plump for the obvious candidates: Alessandro Michele following the rise and rise of Gucci, or Maria Grazia Chiuri for her reinvention of Dior; or Alicia Vikander or Brie Larsson for their Oscars triumphs - but the answer is more about who has been making headlines than clothes or films.

The year's most searched actress - despite her relatively low-profile on screen - unsurprisingly was Meghan Markle. The pretty brunette, whose most famous role is in US television show Suits, was catapulted to fame last month as she was revealed as Prince Harry's new girlfriend, prompting him to defend her honour and legions of inquisitive readers to ask Google, "Who is Meghan Markle?" She overtook Marion Cotillard, Oscar-winner Brie Larsson, and Star Wars star Daisy Ridley just as the year came to an end.
