Ryan Gosling's Dream World

He's currently garnering rave reviews for his role in the fantasy on-screen musical La La Land, but it turns out life at home with Eva Mendes and their daughters, Esmerelda and Amada, is just as dreamy for Ryan Gosling. "Eva's the dream mother, and they're dream babies, and it’s like a dream that I’m having right now. I’m dreaming it all," Gosling, 36, told the January issue of GQ. "When you meet your kids you realise that they deserve great parents. And then you have your marching orders and you have to try and become the person that they deserve." As for his recent role, which has won him a plethora of award nominations, despite spending much his childhood years in the Micky Mouse Club - where, by his own admission, he used to "Shake it like a showgirl" - he found himself wishing that he had learnt many of the routines before now.

"Some of the styles of dance in La La Land I wish I had spent time on when I was a kid," he said. "People are breaking into song and dancing and flying in the stars, and the audience is also having to accept them as real people in the world. That was a challenge. There’s nothing cynical about this movie, and there’s no out for us to say, ‘Just kidding!’ We can’t be ironic about it. There’s no avenue for that in this. It wears its heart on its sleeve, this film." As well as picking up three Critics' Choice Awards at the weekend, La La Land emerged as the one to beat at the 2017 Golden Globes when the nominations for the event were announced yesterday, popping up in seven categories. See who joined them here.
