Jay Williams: Former NBA Player Says 80 Percent Of Players Smoke Marijuana

Many people assume that drugs are just a part of everyday life for most celebrities. In a recent interview with Fox Business, former NBA player and current basketball analyst Jay Wiliams said that for professional basketball players, they definitely are. According to the 34-year-old analyst, 75 to 80 percent of NBA players use marijuana, and the NBA should hop aboard the drug's legalization train. "You see pictures of guys in California going in and getting their medical marijuana cards. And I'm not just saying athletes, let's talk about society. I know a lot of people that use it. It's something that the whole world is becoming more progressive with. So it's about time some of these entities do as well," Williams told Fox Business. Williams would go on to say that NBA players' recreational drug use isn't limited to marijuana, noting that he's known athletes who've used Percocet during actual games. "I know so many athletes that play on Percocet.

Have you ever taken Percocet by the way? It makes you way more groggy than rubbing cannabis oil into your skin," Williams told Fox Business. "It's demonized in society too. Oh, he's a pot head. No, I actually just use cannabis oil because it helps with inflammation and takes away some anxiety." While Williams didn't claim isn't based on scientific research, his claim isn't an unbelievable one. As of today, 23 states have legalized the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Unfortunately for NBA players who enjoy using the drug, the league hasn't followed suit. As of now, NBA players are strictly prohibited from using marijuana by the league officials. If a player tests positive for marijuana once, he will be forced to enter a Marijuana Program. If tests positive a third time, he'll have to pay a $25,000 fine. If he tests positive a third time, he'll have to serve a five game suspension. NBA officials have yet to show any signs of allowing players to use the drug.
